Biography

DJ JJ ROCK

Growing up in the heydays of hip-hop listening to popular Canadian Dj’s such as Mastermind, Chocolate Groove and Dj Starting from Scratch, JJ Rock has always been drawn to music and more specifically djing. Having played many different instruments (saxophone, trombone and drums) as a child, JJ finally settled on an old pair Gemini turntables in her late teens.

Arriving at Carleton University to study Criminology in 1997 JJ was eager to continue her Djing passion. Thus within a year of her arrival she had joined forces with one of Ottawa’s leading Dj crews Groove Train Ent. Groove Train Dj’s Scott Boogie and Chocolate Groove invested many long hours training JJ and helped groom her into the talented Dj she is today. During her stay at Carleton JJ went on to become the resident Dj at the campus bars Olivers, Roosters, and Bree’s Lounge.

JJ has graced the airwaves on Ottawa radio shows such as “The Friday Jam” (CHUO) and as a guest DJ on Kool Fm’s “Taking It From The Streets.” Most notably she has played at The Ottawa Ex, Carleton University Frosh, 416 Graffti Expo, Honey Jam, Canada Day street parties in Ottawa and opened for Choclair. JJ Rock has mixed and cut at clubs in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto and played along side Canada’s number one DJ, DJ Starting from Scratch. In 2001 she was the featured DJ in the five elements of hip-hop television commercial launched by Ottawa clothing store Rugged Culture.

In December 2004 JJ Rock re-united with her love and passion for radio as she offered Monday night spot on CKLN 88.1fm from 11pm-12:30am. At present she is currently one of two resident DJ’s at cube Night Club in Toronto.

Along with her many business ventures that are presently in works, JJ’s main goal right now is to continue building on the success of G-Rock Ent.. With having a huge amount of faith in the group, JJ prides her self on making an excellent contribution to the groups continued success

As one of the few established female DJ’s in her Canada, JJ Rock strives to prove herself by always providing powerful shows, unique mixes and most importantly rocking the crowd.
