Juliana Lee, when she hits the decks, will always throw down a very unique and wicked set. A somewhat cosmic mixture of extremely bold, tight, driving progressive and unrelenting tracks, carefully chosen to take you on the perfect journey would be a great way to sum up this girl's style.
Progressive, yes...dirty, deep, sometimes distorted, thick basslines are also there to move you. Yes on watching this girl slide in the perfect combination of tracks that range from several genres that are blended with fluidity and skill. Throw in an edgy tech breakdown or some gritty acid, maybe top it off with electro, breaks, a bit of hypnotizing tribal, maybe even a little bit of trance and that would give you a clue as to the ride you will go on as the dancefloor is kept at it's peak for hours.
A DJ for almost eight years, playing venues as far ranging as Chile, South America, the 2005 WMC, a respected four year residency at LA's infamous afterhours Insomnia, Godskitchen in LasVegas or her last three dates at Club Spundae in Los Angeles, Juliana Lee continues to evolve and earn recognition in a city known for it's vast talent in the electronic music scene.
Now in the early stages of producing her own track, she says that so many artists and producers and friends have helped shape her as an artist and that increasing the availability and exposure of other talented women in the field is important.
When asked why she is always ready to support female talent, she says, "Eve Falcon, for instance, who is not only a friend but an amazing dj and producer, is such an inspiration to me because of the specific energy, love and unique passion she has for the connection that music allows. I think many women in the scene, in whatever capacity, are really very much in touch with the visceral, emotional beauty that music provides for them."
With an upcoming show on November 12, 2005 at L.A's newly renovated 4000 person capacity super-club, Spundae at Circus, I ask Juliana Lee what it all means to her, what affects and motivates her on a larger scale.
"I want people to really feel a great track, let it take over mind, body and spirit in that one simple, pure moment. That's what music does for me. Takes me to a higher realm and I just want to share that if I can with who wants to listen."
As I think about that I ask her to go a little deeper.
"Our bodies make noise on an atomic level. We all vibrate, have our own frequency. So does music, harmonics of the universe. You know when you are both on the same wavelength, same vibe. As if everything that is inside of you can be explained only in song, only in beat, not just words or anything else. It's perfect and I love it. I will always look to music to be my number one source of comfort and understanding."
Enough said, go watch her some night and see how they come, stay, dance and grin from ear to ear. And she's right there with them."
